This year, it has happened twice already.
The results of a global statistics database's mid-year survey into the standard of living in various regions of the world in 2022 have been released by Numbeo.
Based on a number of qualifying characteristics, including features of life that contribute to a general sense that "you know what, this location is actually pretty lovely," the poll establishes an overall value for "quality of life" And one of those elements, a key determinant of quality of life, is crime, as is the safety of a given city.
The expense of living, access to healthcare, the climate, transportation, and pollution are further indicators of quality of life.
How fared the UAE?
The UAE is the highest-scoring Middle Eastern country and ranks highly overall for national quality of life, coming in at number 11 out of 87 nations. It came in significantly ahead of countries like the United States (19), the United Kingdom (20), Spain (15), Canada (22), France (29), India (48), Singapore (28), Pakistan (70), and more.
The countries of Switzerland, Australia, Scandanavia, Germany, and Austria are among the top winners in terms of quality of life.
However, when the data is broken down into cities and the perceived and actual safety scores are examined, those are the areas of life where our urban sprawls really predominate.
Abu Dhabi ranks first (and lowest for perceived threat) out of 453 cities where data has been provided.
Less Safe cities
The lowest three include Caracas, Venezuela, Pretoria, South Africa, and Celaya, Mexico, with Caracas at the very bottom of the list.
Survey participants were asked to score their feelings about
What do you consider to be the severity of the crime?
Crime levels have changed during the last three years.
strolling with a sense of security in the daytime
feeling secure while out on foot at night
How concerned are you about being robbed or mugged?
Concerns about a car being stolen (or things from the car)
anxiety about being physically attacked by a stranger
Fears of being derided or bothered by anyone in the street or in any other public setting
What extent does property crime pose a problem?
How widespread is the issue of violent crime?
Therefore, it is not surprising that Abu Dhabi consistently achieves top rankings in this type of research.
And other factors than Abu Dhabi prevent those figures from seeming inexperienced. Sharjah placed seventh, 312 places higher than London, England, and Dubai placed eighth, just 223 places higher than Mumbai, India.
