Mont Saint-Michel is a small island and mainland commune located in Normandy, France. To get to the island itself, you can either walk or take a shuttle bus as visitors are not permitted to drive in the actual island itself. The shuttle bus starts at the shuttle hub which is located next to the Tourist Information Centre next to the parking area. The bus drops you off 350 metres away from the city where you can then take in all the surrounding views as you walk towards the island. If you would prefer to walk, it takes around 40 minutes to get from the parking area to the island. I’ve visited Mont Saint-Michel twice and on both occasions. I went in the late afternoon/early evening. I’ve found that going later in the day, probably closer to evening time (6/7pm) meant that it wasn’t as busy - there were still a good amount of people of course, just not as many as there would have been at peak travel time.
